I lived here for 20 years beginning in the late 1980’s, raising a family. I had not painted much since my college days, and I now thank goodness that this place was an inspiration for me. We lived at the ocean’s edge on Gibsons End. Our first house was the Halsey’s three room summer cottage. The following year we built a house for four and determined to leave Manhattan and live full time with the turbulent seasons of an ocean’s edge.
These painting are some of my earliest works. I have no record of many of them, which were sold to supportive friends. The few here remind me of the tone of the wide sea, and directly behind us, the magnetic, open, sundown fields of those times. A blessing, and the ground work for pressing on with watercolor.
