Originated as a theatrical presentation by actors Roy Scheider and Danny Glover on the importance of young peoples’ mentors.

Roy and Danny chose three of their own from their youth and early careers. As a young teen Roy’s first mentor was a 19 year old fellow “ just back from the War.” They worked together every weekend at the gas station his father managed in Irvington, New Jersey.

When Roy’s dad would get tough on the boys, this older mentor would whisper to Roy, “don’t worry, I know he loves you ...” That fellow was named Friend Avery. And they had not seen one another since 1946, until this show was planned in 1996. A wonderful reunion. Danny’s first mentor was his father. The four are pictured here below on stage.

“Who’s gonna be there?” was preformed at the Bay Street Theater of Sag Harbor, New York and at the Old Whaler’s Church for the community at large.

The project was initiated as a start-up celebration and scholarship fundraiser for the new, multicultural elementary Hayground School, in Bridgehampton, New York in 1996.
